I am a huge fan of Buster Keaton. He was a director, writer, stunt man and clown all rolled into one. He has inspired many famous actors to pay homage to his work from Jackie Chan to Johnny Depp.
With this project I was able to convey my wonder and admiration for The Great Stone Face through an informational kiosk. While the kiosk has not yet been installed in a silent film museum, it was rewarded a place on Portland Community College’s Multimedia Art Beat 2008 big screen TV. My project was one of only a dozen selected out of all the multimedia student work produced in 2008.
The kiosk is a series of several pages devoted to conveying fun facts about Buster. The text-centric pages allow the user to click on different interesting images that enlarges them and brings up a short reading. The Flickers page offers the user a chance to click on a still from several different films. Once the user clicks on the still a short video plays a highlighted moment from that film inside a lifesaver from one of Mr. Keaton’s promotional photos.
This project was produced using Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and Director. While I take credit for putting it all together and making the interactivity work, it is really Buster Keaton and all that he has produced in images and film that made the project pop.
